Call for Artists' Submissions

The Fredericton Botanic Garden Association is currently seeking artist submissions for its' new Wabanaki Healing Garden.

The Fredericton Botanic Garden is located on traditional Wolastoqiyik territory at the west end of Odell Park. For this new garden space, the Botanic Garden Association is open to project proposals or submissions of relevant pre-existing artworks by indigenous artists.

The preparation and planting of the Wabanaki Healing Garden is scheduled for completion by the end of 2021. However, the addition of artworks to this garden or anywhere within the Botanic Garden is potentially ongoing - as long as there is inspiration and a willingness for collaboration- the Garden is confident in its ability to source funding.

All ideas, expressions of interest and media are welcome.

A current well-received idea is to have a Wolastoqiyik artist create a stone sculpture in the center with a built-in smudge bowl for ceremonial purposes. Please refer to the schematic of the garden, concept sketch and aerial image of the space.

Our vision is to have a growing number of participants from all races, genders, ages, etc. involved in the creation and caretaking of the Wabanaki Healing Garden.

If you know of any indigenous artists, and/or have questions or comments please contact coordinating volunteers Tess Madigan (t_madigan@rogers.com) or Cecelia Brooks (soulflowerhoney@gmail.com).
